A future government of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) will prioritise all sport disciplines in order to fully harness the potential of the youth in the country, Dr Henry Herbert Lartey, flag bearer of the GCPP, has said.
With less than three months to the presidential and parliamentary elections, Class91.3FM has been speaking with aspirants on their plans for development in the country.
Speaking with Class Sports on Sunday September 18, Dr Lartey said: “We will reintroduce sports in all schools. There will be hockey matches, baseball matches, netball matches; all the different types of sports including basketball. There will be a league in every school and even the colts. Those who unfortunately are not in schools will play in the colts like we did before but we will persuade the chiefs to give us lands so that we will build more stadia and also the athletics stadium so that we will use them effectively to build the sports.”
He added: “We have the talents but if we don’t invest in them, if we don’t get their minds to think positively that they can achieve anything, [we will not be able to develop them]”.
Dr Lartey said: “I understand sports and I understand that to get Ghanaians to do well, you have to get the guys (sports men and women) when they are very young and nurture them.”
