A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has called on the government to implement the laws strictly in dealing with recalcitrant filling station owners who do not comply with safety regulations.
According to him, it is only strict enforcement of the law that will prevent disasters at the filling stations and other areas in the country.
Mr Anyidoho was commenting on the gas explosion that occurred at the Atomic Junction, Madina, in Accra on Saturday, October 6.
The explosion killed at least seven people and injured 132 others who are being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.
Mr Anyidoho said: “We need to be very proactive. We have several laws and so we must implement those laws.
“You have no option than to implement the laws, people won’t be happy with it, but if you don’t do that it won’t help.”
He stressed: “Crack the whip.”
