The Akufo-Addo-led government will deal with issues regarding illegal small scale mining, locally called ‘galamsey’, Professor Albert Quarm, Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, has assured.
His assurance follows fresh protests by the elders and people of Manso Asaman in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti Region against the activities of small-scale miners in the area.
But speaking in an interview with host Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday January 27, Prof Quarm said: “Why should people give out lands for galamsey, resulting in attacks on and harassments by these galamseyers? All these will come to an end and I am telling you and I am assuring you it will come to an end.
“I want to say that we (government) are putting in place (mechanisms) to make sure that all these illegal miners destroying our lands and water bodies and killing people will come to an end.
“We will liaise with National Security to flush them out so that we will have our peace of mind and even those people who have the licence and are abusing it will be dealt with.”
