The Ga Dangme Concerned Youth Group has condemned recent political unrest in the Odododiodioo constituency of the Greater Accra region.
Clashes occurred between supporters of the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and his counterpart from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nii Lantey Bannerman, during a rally on Tuesday, November 8.
The president of the Ga Dangme Concerned Youth Group, Nii Ayaafio Tetteh I, told ClassFMonline.com on Friday, November 11, that it was unfortunate that two leaders with Ga Dangme roots would have their followers engaged in such acts.
He subsequently advised the “leaders of the two major parties to educate their supporters to exercise restraint as the country approaches the December 7 elections”.
He also cautioned the individuals caught up in the feud “to recognise that Ga Dangme issues must unite them”, adding: “Partisan politics should not divide Ga Dangmes.”
Nii Ayaafio Tetteh I, on behalf of the group, also appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) “to declare Odododiodioo an election trouble spot and deploy as many police officers there to ensure calm”.
The group is scheduled to organise a public forum and press conference on Monday, November 14, at Osu, to raise awareness for the public especially Ga Dangme communities to desist from any violent conduct in the build-up to the December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.
