Four police officers are in police custody for allegedly stealing 50,000 Ghana cedis from five Indians who were engaged in suspicious activities at Osu, in Accra.
The officers were sent from the Airport Police Station to effect arrests after reports that the Indians were stashing huge sums of money and gold bars in a residential facility.
Joy News learnt that the money, kept in huge bags, was released to the suspects after Deputy Employment Minister Baba Jamal intervened.
Sources claim all investigations into the matter have been halted but the four officers remain behind bars, three days after their arrest.
Wife of one of the police officers, Vivian Ackuaku who spoke to Joy News’ Fred Smith says Baba Jamal is the brain behind her husband’s unlawful detention.
“I am very angry, very, very angry,” she stated.
Vivian claims her husband and the three of his colleagues were “sent by their boss to go for the operation”. She is extremely angry that the police administration would detain her husband for three days beyond the 48 hours allowed by law when he was only obeying instructions from his superior.
She is demanding her husband’s release after a search in their house produced nothing.
She said if the authorities will not release her husband, should process him for court.
