Ricardo Medina Jr., a former Power Rangers actor, denied slaying his roommate with a sword at his arraignment on Friday.
Medina, 37, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in the killing of Josh Sutter, 36, which occurred on Jan. 31, 2015.
The actor, best known for portraying the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force in 2002, faces up to 26 years to life in prison if convicted, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The two men were allegedly arguing about Medina’s girlfriend when the argument turned physical. Medina is accused of stabbing Sutter multiple times with a sword at their Green Valley, California home.
The actor called the police after the incident and first responders took Sutter to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After his arrest following his roommate’s death, Medina was released on Feb. 3 as the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office did not feel there was enough evidence to charge him at the time.
“I want to say I am very, very, very sorry for what occurred,” Medina told the media after his release. “I’m very happy to be out of jail and my heart goes out to the Sutter family. Thank you.”
His next court appearance is Oct. 20.
