The five-year-old girl who was defiled by her teenage cousin has passed on at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region capital. She was pronounced dead at about 8p.m. Saturday and her body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue. Afia’s health started deteriorating after her ordeal in June this year. She was diagnosed with Cystitis, an infection of the bladder, which makes it difficult for her to walk or pass waste. Her 19-year-old cousin, Kofi Dapaah reportedly had sex with her countless times in the absence of her parents. He is currently serving a 24-year jail term. Afia was expected to undergo another surgery following a first one in June to remove a tumor in her private part that hindered her ability to pass urine or waste. Until her demise, she was undergoing chemotherapy but her abdomen kept swelling. She is expected to buried after her body has been released to the family.
