Gifty Ohene Konadu, National Coordinator of the One-District-One-Factor, has said it is estimated that the first factory to be set up under the programme in the Central Region’s Ekumfi District, will employ 7,500 workers.
The programme forms part of President Akufo-Addo’s plans for job creation and industrialisation. Mr Akufo-Addo made the promise to establish a factory in each of the 216 districts across the country ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Accordingly, his government has indicated that the first factory will be set up in August in the Ekumfi district.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra 1005FM on Wednesday, Mrs Konadu said: “Per our estimation, the first factory to be set up in the Ekumfi District will employ 7500 workers. There are 5000 farmers that will be employed and also 250 factory workers.”
“The factory will be a pineapple processing factory and officers of the CSIR will be assisting in providing scientific research into how to protect the fruits.”
