Former National Security Coordinator, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah, has asked government to find jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the country in order to deal with the armed robbery menace.
According to him, most of the youth engaged in robbery have no jobs and therefore are compelled to engage in the vice to make ends meet.
His comment comes on the heels of the Tuesday attack at the offices of Royal Motors at the Industrial Area in which the robbers reportedly made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
A group of nine suspected robbers have also been arrested in connection to raids at several forex bureau at Spintex.
These are few of the numerous robbery cases recorded this year raising questions about how determined the Ghana police is in fighting against lawlessness especially in the national capital.
Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of the Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday February 28, Mr Nunoo-Mensah said: “Poverty is the main cause of robbery. The young people are jobless and want to survive by all means and they resort to robbery.
“Armed robbery itself is a symptom of a major problem just like headache being the symptom of main sickness and so we need to deal with the main cause of robbery.
“Find jobs for the youth who are unemployed and the robbery will reduce totally.”
