A group calling itself the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has criticised political parties in the country for giving little attention to agriculture in the country.
With a few days to the December 7 polls, the farmers said not much had been done in terms of policy by most of the political parties to revive the agricultural sector.
The group, which is planning to officially declare its support for one of the seven presidential candidates, says it is disappointed at the lack of consultation between farmers and candidates vying for the presidency on matters relating to agriculture.
The president of the association, Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu II, told Class News: “None of them has come to us farmers, but they are rather going to the chiefs [to seek endorsements]. At the end of the day, it is not the chiefs who will vote for them.”
He said they live in the communities and are involved in farming and “we know the suffering we go through while some of the chiefs do not even care about farmers and what is happening”.
He explained: “There is one political party [flag bearer] whose focus and targets are on farmers and has done so much for farmers and this time round we will give it to him.”
