Doctors at the Temale Teaching Hospital have withdrawn anesthesia services in protest to the supply of expired anaesthetics to the facility.
In a letter dated 13 February 2017, the Chief Anesthetist said: “We are sorry to inform you of our withdrawal of anesthesia services in theatre due to expired anesthesia drugs being supplied”.
“We have, therefore, decided to lay down our tools with immediate effect and push until the correct unexpired drugs are supplied for efficient delivery of anesthesia”.
According to the doctors, they only detected the drugs were expired after patients suffered serious complications following the use of the anesthetics.
