An evangelist was nearly lynched at the Takoradi market circle in the Western Region for allegedly insulting Prophet Mohammed.
The attack on the pastor followed accusations by some Muslim youth that he had insulted the Islamic faith.
An eyewitness who spoke to Adom FM’s reporter, Asaasewura Santana said the evangelist, who has been preaching at the market square for the past seven months, incurred the wrath of the Muslims after he said Jesus Christ is more powerful than Prophet Mohammed.
“This pastor has always been criticising the way of dressing especially of the ladies but today, he went preaching closer to the mosque and criticised Prophet Mohammed which angered the youth who wanted to kill him,” he added.
The angry Muslim youth viewed the evangelist’s comment as blasphemous and, thus, sought to lynch him to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to the eyewitness, but for the intervention of passers-by, the itinerant evangelist could have been killed.
The evangelist, after the intervention on people around, bolted from the scene leaving behind his gadgets and offertory bag at the market square.
