Cameroon legend Samuel Eto Fils is confident Andre Ayew can bag a hat-trick of African Footballer of the Year crowns before he retires from the game.
The 27-year-old has missed out on the top individual on two occasions despite coming close.
The Swansea City star lost out to Borussia Dortmund and Gabonese super star Pierre Emerick Aubameyung in 2015 – a similar fate which befell him when he lost to Eto himself in 2011.
But the former Barcelona star, who currently plays for Turkish side Antalyaspor, has backed the Ghana international to win the award in the not too-distant future.
‘’Ayew can win three African Player of the Year Award, he has come close on two occasions and is likely he could win in the next time,’’ he told Ghana Sports Newspaper.
‘’He is still young and has lots of potentials. He has been good for both club and country.
‘’For me, he is one of the best African players in Europe now.
‘’He is performing well in the English Premier League for Swansea City and I think he can win the award for three times before he retires.’
Andre Ayew would replicate what his father Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew did if he is able to win the award on three occasions.”
