The eyeball of a 62-year-old man has been gouged out of its socket in an attack by a suspected ‘wee’ smoker.
The victim, Kwabena Ofori, now in critical condition, has been hospitalised at the Suhum Government Hospital. The incident occurred at Kwabena Kumi, a community near Suhum in the Eastern Region, on the night of Friday September 9, 2016, at about 10:40pm.
According to Faustina Agyei, the victim’s sister, they were asleep when they heard an unusual noise in the house. Curious to know what was happening, they went out only to see a young man believed to be 25 years old taking a shower in the courtyard of the house. Ofori accosted the suspect but he was pushed down and attacked before neighbouring residents could save him.
However, it was discovered, after being rushed to the hospital that he had lost his eye during the assault. Faustina revealed that the removed eyeball was later taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, Police at Suhum have arrested the suspect and an accomplice, who residents claim had come to the area to smoke marijuana during which they allegedly committed the crime
