President John Dramani Mahama must ensure that the criminals parading in New Patriotic Party (NPP) paraphernalia and fomenting trouble are dealt with immediately, given that the country is still in his hands a week after losing the December 7 elections, Dr Edward Mahama, the 2016 presidential candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC), has said.
His call follows reported cases of vandalism on public installations and pockets of violence allegedly being perpetrated by supporters of the NPP after the party’s historic victory in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Several stakeholders including the National Peace Council, political parties, civil society groups, and the security have condemned these acts of violence.
But Dr Mahama believes that the outgoing president must not shirk his responsibility of maintain law and order in the country.
He tweeted on Wednesday December 14: “We can only have one government at any given time to ensure there is law and order. Currently John Mahama is the president and must do his JOB.”
He added: “What is stopping the government of the other Mahama (John) from bringing law and order [on] these criminals parading in party paraphernalia?”
