The Bank of the Ghana (BoG) has called for calm among customers of DKM Microfinance Company, which was closed down for violating the banking Act.
According to the Bank of Ghana the company carried its operations in a manner that was detrimental to the interest of depositors.
Citi Business News has also gathered DKM Diamond Microfinance Company failed to hold sufficient assets to meet its liabilities to depositors.
The company which has branches in Suyani in the Brong Ahafo Region and Bolgatanga in the East Region, had its operations suspended by the BoG on 11th May, 2015.There have been several calls by the affected customers and interest groups for the BoG to expedite its investigations on the company.
Last week, the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council, called on the central bank to expedite action and pay depositors their locked up funds.
Head of the Licensing and Resolution Office at the Bank of Ghana, Joseph Frimpong-Manso, said the central bank will by Friday September 11, make a public statement on the way forward with DKM Microfinance Company.
Speaking on ‘Business Today’ on Citi FM, Mr Frimpong-Manso told host of the program Vivian Kai Lokko, that locked up monies belonging to customers will be refunded soon.
“That GHc50 million that people are talking about that the company is supposed to give to us is not actually meant for the Bank of Ghana but it is monies that we have said that they should inject into the business so that they would be able to honor all customers’ withdrawals.”
According to him, DKM was given 30 more days to enable them meet the requirement of injecting GHc50 million cedis into the business.
Meanwhile a formal communication on the Facebook page of DKM Microfinance Company, apologized to its customers on their long silence over the issue.
According to the company, the initial audit process by the central bank was successful.
“Glory be to God! The exercise tasked to the external auditors is over. We must understand that in matters like this, many third parties will express their views (positive and negative) on the subject matter but in any case, we must be firm and stay focus.” It said.
