The Electoral Commission (EC) has called on persons on the special voter’s list whose names have been missing on the list and therefore unable to vote in the December 1 election to remain calm as they resolve the challenge.
A statement signed by Mr Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, Head of Communications at the EC, said: “The Electoral Commission wishes to assure members of the security agencies and the general public that we are fully aware of the challenges some of them are facing at the various polling stations with the Special Voters’ List.
“The Commission is working with the hierarchy of the security agencies to resolve the challenge as soon as possible. We urge the security personnel affected to remain calm. Appropriate arrangements will be made for them all to vote in this year’s elections,” the statement added.
Some 127,000 persons from the security services, media and the EC are on the special voters’ list for this year’s special voting.
However, many are facing challenges as their names were missing on the list on the day of the election on Thursday 1 December.
Some of the angry officers have said they will boycott their duties on the main election day of December 7 to visit their original polling stations to vote if they are unable to vote on Thursday or special arrangement made for them to vote before the election day.
