The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has said that it will extend its continuous voter registration exercise by one more day to make up for backlog created by system challenges on the opening day of the exercise.
The exercise was instituted to afford eligible voters who could not register during the period of limited voter registration the opportunity to make it onto the voter roll.
The EC set Friday August 19 and Saturday August 26 for the exercise after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on August 3.
Meanwhile the commission is encouraging eligible voters to take advantage of the exercise to register if they could not do so previously.
The Public Relations Officer of the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, told Class News: “The exercise is taking place at all the district offices of the EC. Prospective persons should go there in person along with proof of eligibility. We have these last two days beyond which there will be no facility to register to get onto the voter roll for this year’s exercise.”
