Superintendent Cephas Arthur, East Legon Police Commander, has said four patrol teams have been deployed by the Inspector General of Police to support the East Legon police in the fight against land guards in the area.
This he said, formed part of several operational strategies adopted by the police to combat the menace. He, however, did not reveal the other strategies.
His comments come on the heels of concerns raised by Captain Budu Koomson, President of the East Legon Residents Association, with regards to how the land guards are terrorising residents and property owners in the area.
Captain Koomson told Chief Jerry Forson, Accra 100.5FM’s host of Ghana Yensom, on Monday, September 4 that: “The land guards fire shots all over the place, some also attacks innocent people on the streets at night and so we want the police to up and doing in providing security to the residents.”
Responding to these comments on the same programme, Supt Arthur assured the residents that: “We have adopted our operational strategy to ensure that the police visibility is up in the fight against this crime.
“At the moment we have four other patrol teams that have been deployed to support the one we have at the East Legon to beef up the team in combatting crime in the area.”
He added: “We will do our bit and arrest the people and process them before court for the appropriate sanctions to be meted out to them.”
