A 32-year-old man, on the dawn of Monday, 13 February 2017, shot and killed his wife and turned the gun on himself at Dominase-Gomoa in the Central Region.
The unit committee chairman of the area, who spoke to Accra News’ Kwame Quaye, said the man – whose name was only given as Kwashie – and his wife, known as Yayra, 28 – had retired to bed on Sunday after supper, together with the woman’s two children from a previous relationship.
But at about 5:30am on Monday, one of the children was heard screaming in the room that his step-father had pointed a gun at his mother. He pulled the trigger seconds later.
Having shot his wife, Kwashie aimed the gun at his head and fired, killing himself instantly.
The assemblyman said residents rushed to the room to find two bodies in a pool of blood. Yayra, he said, was being rushed to the Trauma Hospital at Winneba when she died.
Police were called to the scene but the body of Kwashie still lay at the scene.
Residents said the relationship between the couple seemed cordial, and, thus, were at a loss over what occasioned the unfortunate homicide and suicide.
