Former Teranga Lions striker El Hadji Diouf says he is giving serious thoughts to life in football administration after hanging up his boots.
Diouf starred in the Senegalese squad that lost out to Cameroon in the final of the CAN in 2002 and also contributed to their quarter-final qualification at the World Cup that same year.
He was voted African Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
El Hadji Diouf is a colourful character, whether it was with his breath-taking close control and dribbling skills on the pitch or off the pitch comments and verbal sparring, he is never far away from making headlines.
“I am a very honest person and I can clearly tell you administration is the biggest problem because not all federation members love football as some use it as a stepping stone to other things and to do business. I have played at the highest level and I saw how professionalism made things efficient. I just wish the same could be done in Africa then the football will grow as we are blessed with so much talent,” he noted.
“Federations must have people that love the game and are ready to also involve former footballers who have played the game and have the knowhow. Senegal has a lot of potential and talented youngsters, but we have to agree that maybe some changes were needed in the Cameroon game.”
Senegal were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the CAN by Cameroon in a penalty shootout.
