Veteran Coach J.E. Sarpong has cautioned Ghanaian coaches to refrain from lofty promises when offered coaching jobs.
This follows comments by newly-appointed Hearts of Oak Coach, Kim Grant that he plans to win the CAF Champions League trophy for the Phobians during his tenure as head coach of the club.
Grant made the announcement after he was unveiled as the club’s new head coach and director of football.
However, in an interview with Accra Sports on Friday, 9 November 2018, Coach Sarpong said: “When Ghanaian coaches are given a job, they promise the moon. If you promise the moon with your team and you do not succeed, there will be pressure on you”.
He added: “Kim Grant should have been mindful of his approach. Hearts of Oak has won CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup before. It is not easy to win CAF Champions League with this team. I thought, Kim Grant should have said ‘I am coming to build a formidable team for Hearts’, as simple as that”.
He further said, “Coaching Hearts of oak is beyond Speaking English. Everybody can speak English but we do not use English to coach Hearts. Hearts will not be ready for any excess from Kim Grant when he fails to deliver”.
