Goalkeeper for Medeama Sporting Club, Daniel Agyei, has apologised to fans for the club’s failure to qualify to the semi-final stage of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup.
The Tarkwa-based side lost narrowly by a lone goal to nil to Algerian side MO Bejaia, a result that brought their campaign to an end.
They were the only Ghanaian side to have made it to the Group phase of continental football. Agyei, who has taken over from Muntari Tagoe as first choice goalie expressed his disappointment at the team’s failure to make it to the last four when they arrived from Algeria.
“For me, I feel very disappointed because this is not how we wanted it to go. We wanted to make it to the semi-final stage, which is both players and management. So, we the players we say we are very sorry for this loss. We were supposed to win but that was not the case. We are very sorry and very disappointed,” he told Class Sports.
The former U-20 goalie also blamed the humid weather conditions in Algeria for the team’s loss.
“I think the wind was a little bit rough and when we came back for the second half, it was very hot. The pitch was also very slippery and we were trying to contain them and manage them but I think it took us by surprise when they scored.”
Congolese giants TP Mazembe, MO Bejaia of Algeria, FUS Rabat of Morocco and Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia have now qualified for the semi-final stage of the competition.
