The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo on his election as the new president of Ghana after the December 7 polls.
Mr Akufo-Addo beat outgoing president John Dramani Mahama and five other candidates including the flag bearer of the CPP, Ivor Greenstreet, to emerge winner.
“We wish Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP every success as they serve our beloved nation during a period of great challenge and opportunity,” a statement signed by the party’s National chairman, Professor Edmund Delle, said.
According to him, Mr Akufo-Addo’s victory is a “victory for Ghana and a testament to our democracy”.
The CPP also commended the Electoral Commission, political parties, polling agents, the media, civil society, and all Ghanaians for their role in ensuring a successful election.
“CPP is committed to fighting corruption, promoting human rights and the development of our democracy. We are ready to work with the NPP to advance the development of Ghana, but will also play our role in holding the new government accountable to the people,” the statement said.
