The Convention People’s Party(CPP) has appointed two officials to act as General Secretary and National Youth Organizer following the suspension of Nii Armah Akomfrah and Ernesto Yeboah.
A Deputy General Secretary in charge of Administration, Asani Tanoh will now be Acting General Secretary while Nabila Basiru a Deputy Youth Organizer is to act as Youth Organizer.
The suspension of the duo is in connection with the strong stance of the two against the controversy over President Mahama’s Ford vehicle gift offered him by a Burkinabe contractor.
The two berated their flagbearer Ivor Greenstreet for suggesting that the president broke no law by accepting the gift and subsequently petitioned CHRAJ to probe the President for accepting a bribe.
The Director of Communications for the CPP, Abdul Kadril, said the appointments were made to fill the vacuum created after the suspension of the two.
“At any given point, there has to be someone yielding and exercising the authority and power as General Secretary of the party and at the same time as youth organizer, and so when you look at the constitution of the CPP, those that crafted the constitution made provisions for two deputy general secretaries and two deputy youth organizers and so clearly you can see the reason.”
“The reason is that, at some point in time, someone must be physically present and that is the main reason why the Chairman and the leader immediately has to approve and authorize the deputy General secretary and the deputy National Youth Organizer to fill the vacuum so there will not be any space left.”
