The Ashanti Regional branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has embarked on massive membership drive to broaden its support base ahead of the 2016 general election.
The party has formed working committees to actively engage particularly young voters in the various constituencies to win them over.
The Regional Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Gallo, who announced this, said the CPP enjoyed tremendous goodwill and they were determined to make it count in next year’s polls.
He said they were confident of a strong showing to restore the party to its proper place in the country’s politics.
He was addressing a meeting with constituency chairmen in Kumasi to discuss ways of strengthening the party’s grass-roots structures to make them more functional.
Mr Gallo said it was becoming increasingly obvious that many Ghanaians had become disappointed at the performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), and yearned for change.
“There cannot be any doubt that it is the CPP which can be trusted to make things better and live up to the expectation of the people.”
He said everything would, therefore, be made to put the party in a better shape and to make it “battle-ready.”
He urged all members, including those in the diaspora, to accept to contribute financially and make the needed sacrifices to help the CPP to win political power.
They should close their ranks to present an impregnable front and work as a team to achieve election victory.
Mr Gallo reminded the constituency officers that there was no time to waste and asked them to act.
