The Human Rights Court in Accra has thrown out a case in which the suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Paul Afoko, is challenging the party’s decision to suspend him.
Mr Afoko sued the NPP in December 2015, after claiming that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) breached the party’s constitution as far as his suspension was concerned.
He also challenged the constitutionality of the party’s Disciplinary Committee that recommended his suspension.
He was allegedly working to undermine the party’s chances of winning the December 7 elections, therefore, the NPP’s NEC unanimously voted to suspend him indefinitely. The ruling by the court on Monday 14, August, thus upholds the NEC decision to suspend Mr Afoko indefinitely from the party.
Class FM’s Nabil Ahmed Rufai reported that the judge ruled that the suspension was fair and that the evidence produced by lawyers for Mr Afoko was not enough to reverse the suspension.
