Ghana’s Richard Commey suffered his first professional defeat to Robert Easter Jr in Reading, Pennsylvania, on the night of Friday September 9.
Commey lost in a split decision to miss out on becoming the new IBF world lightweight champion.
Although Commey knocked down Easter Jr in the eighth round, the American came back strongly to finish the 12 rounds and win on points.
Judge one scored the bout 115-112 in favour of Easter Jr, followed by 114-113 in favour of Commey with the final judge scoring the bout 114-113 in favour of the new IBF World lightweight champion.
Both fighters went into the bout undefeated. Easter Jr’s record now stands at (18-0, 14 KO), while Commey’s record is now (24-1, 22 KO).
