The Management of Class Media Group (CMG), owners of Accra-based Class91.3FM and Accra100.5FM as well as Adehye3 99.1FM, Kumasi 104.1FM, No. 1 FM and CTV, has launched the Celebrity Orphanage Easter Funfair programme.
General Manager of Class Media Group, Nana Apeanti, speaking during the launch of the programme on Friday March 24, said since its inception, CMG has embarked on several gestures to assist the underprivileged in the society.
He said, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities, the company had over the period donated rice and other assorted items to the public, given out free fuel to commercial drivers, donated an amount of GHS50,000 to single mothers to cater for their children’s school fees and to also start businesses.
He said: “Since CMG came into being we have worked with people including single mothers. The company gave out GHS50,000 to the single mothers to pay their children’s fees and to also set up table-top businesses. Commercial drivers and listeners were also given free fuel and bags of rice.
“We have decided to assist orphans during this Easter occasion. For some reasons some people have become orphans and so we think that the Easter festivity presents a great opportunity to us to assist these orphans.”
Mr Apeanti further appealed to the general public to make donations to the company if they want to support the programme, saying that “whatever donations that would be made would be properly accounted for”.
Launching the programme on Accra100.5FM on Friday March 24, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North and Deputy Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Gifty Twum Ampofo, said: “All children have the right to be happy in life, however, due to exigencies of the world, not all of them have the opportunity to enjoy life. Through no fault of theirs, they have become orphans, hence the initiative by Class Media Group to entertain and assist these orphans is a gesture that is commendable. I will appeal to other corporate bodies to emulate the steps taken by CMG to assist orphans in the society.
“The ministry also has plans to assist the vulnerable in the country and on this note the orphanage and celebrity programme is duly launched.”
The event is intended to bring children from selected orphanages in the Greater Accra Region together in one location to socialise and interact with selected Ghanaian celebrities to make them feel loved, entertained and educated during the Easter festivities.
There will be a variety of games for the children with performances by various artistes as well as free medical screening and donations to the various orphanages.
The selected orphanages are the Teshie Orphanage, the Potters Village, and Chosen Home.
The list of celebrities doing this with CMG include comedians Funny Face and Kalybos, movie stars Martha Ankomah, Majid Michel, and Yvonne Nelson.
Others pencilled are Nana Ama McBrown, Amy Newman, John Dumelo, SP Kofi Sarpong, Joyce Blessing, Lydia Forson, and Pascal Amanfo.
The rest are A Plus, Pearl Amoah, Abeiku Santana, Asabea Cropper, Blakk Eye, Moro Awudu, Emefa Apawu, and Mauvie Hayford.
CMG is, therefore, calling on individuals and corporate bodies to donate towards the programme to put a smile on an orphan’s face.
