Calls for the resignation of Minority Chief Whip Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka over a bribery allegation levelled by colleague MP Mahama Ayariga against the leadership of the Appointments Committee of parliament and Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko are premature, the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.
Some members of the NDC have called for the resignation of the Asawase lawmaker for taking a different stance against his fellow Minority MPs who have alleged that Mr Agyarko, then-Energy Minister-designate, attempted to bribe NDC MPs on the Appointments Committee through the chairman of the Committee to approve his nomination.
“The Ashanti Regional Chapter of the National Democratic Congress expresses its displeasure at calls by some leading members of the NDC for the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka’s resignation in respect of his position on the alleged Agyarko bribery scandal,” the group said in a statement.
“The Regional Chapter of the NDC finds these calls premature, particularly when the alleged scandal is under investigation by the special ad hoc committee of parliament of which the Hon. Minority Chief Whip avails himself without hesitation.”
