Ghanaians must elect a leader who has ensured unity within his political party instead of a presidential aspirant whose party is heavily divided, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking re-election on the ticket of the NDC, has been able to ensure unity in his party, a situation that makes him a better choice in the elections than his main contender, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said the NPP was heavily divided under the watch of Mr Akufo-Addo, following the opposition party’s indefinite suspension of three of its national executives – Chairman Paul Afoko, General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and Second National Vice Chairman Samuel Crabbe, who were found to be working against the interest of the party and the flag bearer for the 2016 elections – and was likely to exhibit that divisiveness should he be offered the mandate to lead the country.
Speaking at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region as part of the NDC’s campaign towards Election 2016 on Friday November 18, Mr Ampofo said: “The country should not be given to the one who has not been able to manage his own home (political party). Don’t make that mistake of choosing anybody apart from President Mahama in the elections.”
He added: “President Mahama has managed the NDC well. There are no divisions in the NDC, unlike the NPP that is divided under Nana Addo.”
