Individuals who will incite violence or engage in politics of insults ahead of the 2016 polls will be severely punished, Omanhene of Dunkwa-on-Offin, Nana Obeng Nuako III, has warned.
He emphasised that anyone found to have brewed tension or encouraged violence within his jurisdiction in anyway would not be spare.
“I am emphasising that anyone who wants trouble for himself, who will go to any radio station and make unsavoury political comments will not be forgiven. It is not NDC, NPP, or PPP who established this town,” he stated.
Nana Nuako made the call at the opening of a new radio station, Visa88.5FM, for the community on Saturday September 24.
For him, everyone within his jurisdiction is subject to his authority and, therefore, warned them to be cautious in their comments and deeds during the electioneering period.
The chief advised the media to exhibit “high professional competence” to raise the standard of broadcasting.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Asante South Presbytery Pastor, Rev Moses Asante, entreated media practitioners to desist from negative political, religious, ethnic, and cultural biases. For him neutrality and objectivity are crucial. “There are many tribes in Ghana, there are many religions and political parties, so you should not be biased. You need to be circumspect to prevent any misunderstanding and conflicts,” he noted.
