The legendary late Mohammed Ali has been described as a boxer who had the inbuilt ability to self-publicise.
Cameron Duodu, a veteran Ghanaian journalist, who is the only Ghanaian journalist to have interviewed the great boxer, noted: “Whenever he [Ali] opened his mouth you have to pen something down.”
The legendary boxer died of septic shock after several days in the hospital with a severe respiratory illness, his family said through a spokesperson. He was 74.
The former editor of the Ghana edition of the South African magazine, Drum, between 1960 and 1965, further revealed that Mohammed Ali, in addition to his boxing exploits, was also conscious of the struggles of the black people for liberation and rights, something that brought him to Ghana in 1964.
“He [Mohammed Ali] was so conscious of the black man’s struggle…he made his way here [Ghana] just to show himself…”
