The two police officers who were arrested in connection with their alleged involvement in the attempted robbery of a GCB Bank bullion van, Lance Corporal Kusi Abrokwah and Solomon Mensah, have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
They told the Mpraeso Circuit Court presided over by Her Worship Mariam Salleh Sinari on Monday, 29 August that one Lance Corporal Christopher Baabudu took off their handcuffs so they could walk about freely.
The two officers were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and escaping lawful arrest.
Accra100.5FM’s Eastern regional correspondent, McAnthony Dagyenga, who was in court on Monday August 29, reported that Lance Corporal Baabudu was present at the hearing and was called into the dock to answer to the allegation by the policemen.
He, however, denied taking off the handcuffs to allow the officers to flee.
The two suspects escaped at Nkawkaw while being transferred to Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital.
