The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of stockpiling arms to cause mayhem in the region.
According to the party’s Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru and NDC candidate for Walewale, Abdallah Abubakari are deploying weapons to NDC supporters in the region to cause mayhem ahead of this year’s general elections.
Addressing a press conference in Tamale, the NPP Regional Chairman said two of their members have been assaulted by supporters of the NDC on the orders of the Regional Minister.
He said but for their intervention, their supporters were going to retaliate in equal measure and it would have been bloody.
“They have brought fire arms to Walewale for the elections but we will not sit down for them to kill us,” he stressed.
Bugri Naabu charged the police to intervene in the matter and bring the culprits to book else “we will take the law into our own hands”.
In a quick rebuttal, the Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Halid Abdul Rauf described the allegation of the NPP Chairman as “a figment of his imagination”
He indicated that the ruling party does not need to stockpile armed to win elections in the Northern region.
“NDC has always controlled the Northern region and we don’t need violence to win elections,” he added.
Halid Abdul Rauf said the NDC is committed to ensure peace during, before and after election and have admonished their members to adhere to it.
