A book of condolence has been opened at Atlantis Radio off the Kanda Highway in Accra to allow people to pay their personal respects to Mr James Appiah, owners and Managing Director of the radio station, who died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on September 3, 2016. He was 57.
A statement issued by the station and signed by General Manager Sylvia Darko said: “Mr. Appiah played a pioneering role in the liberalisation of the media airwaves, which paved the way for private radio broadcasting in Ghana.”
He was also a past member of the Executive Council of Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).
The statement said funeral arrangements are in the pipeline and will be communicated as soon as available.
“Mr Appiah will be sorely missed by many who encountered him,” the statement said.
One of Mr Appiah’s friends and business associate Dr Kwesi Owusu wrote in the book of condolence: “Will always remember you, especially when you laugh, forthright, sincere and dependable. Our long chats, love for country, radio and advancing the very best things in life. We shall meet again, my brother. Our collaboration with the tour for Courtney Pine, John Legend and tribute to Osibisa. You are a legend, a true legend. Rest in peace”.
