Former Black Stars player Laryea Kingston has said lack of competition in the Black Stars has led to unimpressive performances by players of the senior national team in recent times.
The Black Stars have performed poorly in recent times and have not won a match in their last four games.
“For me, I think I have to be very honest. The show bolting is just too much among some of the players in the Black Stars. They have to focus on the game and that is important but it looks like some of them are overconfident and it has gone into their heads and they think there is no one on the bench that can replace them. As a player, if you don’t have some of these things, it affects you,” Kingston told Class Sports.
He further added that head coach of the Black Stars Avram Grant lacked confidence in the bench of the stars.
“When you look at it, it appears like the coach lacks confidence in the bench. Sometimes you see players not having a good day on the pitch but you will see them still playing. From what I have seen with Avram Grant, the first starting eleven starts every game,” he said.
Ghana have been drawn in Group D for the Africa Cup of Nations and will face Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
