ASP Mohammed Tanko, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Offficer, has said Bimbila is peaceful.
There was heightened tension in Bimbila in the Northern Region as the Gbugmayili family vowed to resist the burial of the mortal remains of the late Nakpa Naa Salifu Dawumi in Bimbila, following a decision by government to prepare grounds for the late Nakpa Naa.
According to the Gbugmayili family, the decision by government to bury the late Nakpa Naa is against customs and traditions.
They argued that the late Nakpa Naa was not Bimbila Naa per their customs, hence, they would resist any attempt by the Regional Security Council to bury Nakpa Naa in the Gbugmayili graveyard, since he never succeeded the Bimbila Paramountcy.
Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yesnom on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday, October 12 ASP Tanko said: “There is no problem in Bimbila, there are police officers and military men in there who are also ensuring peace after the burial of the Nakpaa Naa. As we speak there is peace in that area.”
