Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has blamed the poor nature of the pitch used for the Ghana’s last group game against Egypt in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament for his injury.
Gyan was substituted in the first half in what appeared to be a groin injury and it is unknown whether he will be available for Ghana’s quarter-final clash against DR Congo on Sunday.
Speaking to Class News’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang, the striker said the pitch was not good for the players.
“Like I say, we don’t have good pitches. The pitch I think is the cause because I said it on day one and I told some of the players it’s not good for our muscle. Right now, I’m injured and we just have to see the extent of the injury. We have to go for the MRI scan and then the doctor can confirm how long I’m going to stay out,” he stated.
“I feel pain… When I walk it’s OK, but when I try to change direction that is when I feel the pain. In football, there is a lot of changing of direction and so hopefully we go for the scan and then there might be a miracle so we’ll see.”
Ghana has already lost one player in the Nations Cup in the person of Baba Rahman, who got injured in the team’s first game with Uganda and has since left the competition to London where he underwent surgery to his knee.
