A young couple at Adankwame near Barekesse in the Atwima Nwabiagya district has accused nurses at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital of stealing their new born baby after delivery.
Speaking to Adehye News’ Owoahene Addai Mununkum on Thursday, March 30, the husband, Nana Kwame, said he took his wife who was in labour to the hospital on Sunday, March 26 and was later informed that his new born baby had died. He indicated that he was told by nurses that his family member had signed to that effect but Nana Kwame has denied and accused the nurses of stealing his baby.
“On Monday, the baby was healthy but on Wednesday I was told that the baby had died and a relative had signed for the baby to be taken to the mortuary, but it is my name that has been with the officials when we went to the hospital. I want them to produce that relative,” he indicated.
Meanwhile, an in-law to Nana Kwame who spoke to Owoahene earlier said: “It is not true. The nurses are telling lies in order to sell the baby. I will not agree to this, that someone who is not a relative of the couple has come to sign. Have you heard this before?”
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kwame Frimpong, has promised that management is critically looking into the allegation to ascertain the truth and will not hesitate to report the matter to the police to conduct investigations.
“I will plead with them to exercise patience that we will launch an investigation into the matter and the police will be informed if necessary,” he added.
In 2014, a similar incident occurred at the hospital, sparking nationwide discussions.
