Two supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are reported dead while two others have been hospitalised after they were electrocuted while erecting a billboard.
The incident occurred at Abesim, close to Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region at 10am on Wednesday September 7, according to the Communications Director of the NPP in Sunyani East, Maxwell Mahama.
Mr Mahama explained that a team of seven individuals were undertaking the task of mounting the billboard contracted to Eye Gallery Enterprise.
He explained that the two deceased NPP members were at the site to help put up the billboard bearing the image of the Sunyani East NPP parliamentary aspirant and the flag bearer of the NPP. He said the men pasted the photos of the MP aspirant and flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on one side of the billboard.
“As they made to turn the billboard to post the banner on its other side, it (the billboard) touched a high tension cable and the victims got electrocuted,” he indicated.
He said the bodies have been deposited at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital and the other injured individuals are in a stable condition and responding to treatment.
“They are able to talk and even eat and are in a good condition now,” he said of the injured.
He indicated that officials of the party have met the families of the deceased and the Police investigating the case.
