Andre Ayew has said the injury he sustained on his West Ham United debut on the night of Monday, August 15, against Chelsea in their English Premier League opener is nothing serious.
The club’s record-signing was substituted just after the half-hour mark due to a thigh injury.
Ayew seems to have strained a muscle when he tried to track the effervescent Eden Hazard. He is set to undergo a scan on Tuesday August 16 to ascertain the degree of damage. But manager Slaven Bilic has disclosed the former Swansea star has told him the injury is not a “big one”.
“Ayew has a thigh injury,” he confirmed. “He told me it is not a big one, but you never know and he will have a scan on Tuesday and we have to wait for the result of the scan to know how long he will be out.”
The Ghana international is likely to miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa League play-off round first-leg tie with Astra Giurgiu in Romania.
