Supreme Court judge Justice William Atuguba has assumed the role as acting Chief Justice in the absence of Justice Georgina Theodora Woode.
This was revealed by the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye, while introducing dignitaries in parliament on Thursday 21 February ahead of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s maiden State of the Nation Address.
Justice Atuguba was in the Chief Justice’s seat in parliament next to the president when he was introduced amidst cheers from a section of legislators.
Justice Atuguba will act in the position until Mr Akufo-Addo appoints a new Chief Justice or decide to regularise his appointment since Justice Georgina Theodora Woode is not expected to return from her leave which she has taken prior to her retirement.
Justice Atuguba became famous in Ghana when he chaired the panel that sat on Ghana’s 2012 election petition.
