Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be the first to draw blood in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, Ebenezer Nii Nartey, parliamentary aspirant for the party in the Ablekuma Central constituency has said.
However, according to him, the party will not sit unconcerned as its members are attacked and intimidated by their opponents while the police watch unconcerned.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, 25 November, Mr Nartey said: “I will wish to remind the electorate that in two weeks’ time, we will be voting. I will urge them that on the 7th of December, if they are casting their vote, they should vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the president of the Republic of Ghana and they should also vote for me as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central constituency for development.”
He continued: “Eight years of corruption under Mahama is enough, 8 years of stealing is enough, 8 years of suffering is enough. Now is the time for us to change this government. The electorate should look at how their businesses have collapsed and vote for change. I will urge them again that on the 7th of December everybody whose voters ID card is missing should go to the polling station and mention his or her name. The polling officers will cross-check the names with the verification devices and allow them to vote.
“We in the NPP will not sit unconcerned for our people to be intimidated in any electoral area. We will not be the first to throw a stone in this election, we are going into this election without violence but we will not sit unconcerned as our members are being attacked and intimidated. We will make sure that what happened in the 2012 elections is never repeated in the Ablekuma Central constituency in 2016.
“We appeal to the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission to be fair in this election and not take sides.”
