Security expert Nana Owusu Sekyere has outlined key security signs that the team constituted by the Ghana Tourism Authority must look out for when conducting an audit of all major tourist sites across the country.
Following the Kintampo Waterfall disaster, which claimed at least 19 lives leaving several others injured when a tree fell on them while swimming, the GTA has constituted a team to carry out a thorough security audit of all tourist sites in the country.
Speaking on 505 on Class91.3FM on Wednesday 21 March, Nana Owusu Sekyere said the team must do a thorough monitoring and evaluation of the sites.
“We must be able to evaluate access to exit in the Kintampo Falls. Every exit that is there we must be able to evaluate how accessible it is. That’s the first thing we must do,” he stated.
“The second thing is, we must evaluate all sites’ response units and their capabilities. Because hitherto, I am aware that they don’t have a response unit, so then if they don’t have it, why don’t they have it? And of course if we must have it, in which regard should we have it?
“The third thing also which is very crucial that we must do is evaluate monitoring and evaluation procedures. If they don’t have it, why don’t they have it? And if they have it, how far have they used it? Last but not the least, which is also very key, is we must evaluate the environmental safeness of the place taking into consideration the hazards and the risks around.
