An Emmanuel Osei penalty in the second half gave AshantiGold a 1-0 win over WAFA to clinch the 2014/2015 First Capital Plus Premier League title; their first league crown in 19 years.
The Miners went into the match knowing that even a draw would be enough for them to win the league but their willingness to win was undone by the lack of goals in the first half from them and the visitors.
The match opened up in the second half but it was AshantiGold who had more of the possession and they got a penalty after Osei was fouled.
He took the kick himself and scored for the home team.
They almost got a second but Alabori Razak, in post for WAFA, saved a point blank shot to keep the score at 1-0.
With the win, AshantiGold have 52 points ahead of the final day of the league. They lead Aduana Stars by six points who drew goalless at home to New Edubiase.
