Nurses at the Asesewa Government Hospital in the Eastern region have registered their displeasure against the medical superintendent of the facility. The angry workers are accusing Dr. Eric Boateng and another doctor of charging unapproved fees and falsifying medical reports at the blind side of patients. The nurses and midwives who demonstrated to petition the district medical director are seeking redress. They have given management of the facility a week ultimatum to address the issue. The secretary of the group, Isaac Batsa Tei in an interview with Starr News said: “Clients who come to the hospital with health insurance are charged to the tune of Ghc300, Ghc200 and Ghc100 even though the insurance covers the medical bills and then the doctors pocket the money.” “Information out there is that we are charging unapproved fees but it’s not us but solely the doctors. A patient was asked to undergo an eye assessment but these doctors sit in their office and take monies and do not allow the patient to go to the eye clinic for the assessment. “Since the beginning of this year, the huge number of patients who have suffered under these doctors is unimaginable, they are disgracing the hospital and it’s about time something is done about it,” Tei lamented.
