The Manhyia Divisional Police Command has arrested three suspects for their involvement in the shooting of Osman Abdul Karim,17, during this year’s Eid al-Fitr at Asawase.
The suspects are Sulleyman Musah, 19; Abdulai Umar, 18, and Lawson Hubert Joli, 19.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday June 2017, a group of Muslim youth were having fun at Manhyia Total during the Eid when some unidentified young men on a motorbike stormed the place and fired a locally made pistol at the celebrants hitting one of them in the head, after which they sped off.
Briefing a press conference on Tuesday July 25, 2017, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, told the media that all three suspects went into hiding after the act until their arrest on Thursday, July 20, 2017.
He said Musah, having confessed to have personally shot the victim, Abdul Karim, in the head with a locally made pistol, also told police that the pistol he used to commit the crime was purchased from one Fuseini, now at large, for GHS300.
“Sulleyman Musah, however, indicated to police that [during] a scuffle between him and one Shatta, a couple of months before the incident at Bonjour that he bought the pistol to attack Shatta in revenge when he got information that he would be at the street jam organised after the Eid festivities at Bonjour but rather shot Abdul Karim,” he said.
All of the three suspects, he said, are in police custody assisting in investigations, “whilst efforts are being made to arrest suspect Fuseni to assist in investigations”.
