The Asanteman Traditional Council has laid interred the remains of Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II at the Breman Royal Mausoleum in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
The late queen was laid in state for four days amidst the display of the rich Asante culture, which saw national and international dignitaries thronging the Manyhia Palace to pay their last respects to the fallen royal and also to mourn with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
As part of the burial rites, business activities came to a standstill and a 7pm-4am curfew imposed on residents in the capital on Thursday January 19.
Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II was the mother of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Asante kingdom. She died at the age of 111 after she reigned for 39 years.
