The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has vowed to complete the abandoned maternity block project of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, begun some forty years ago by the Acheampong regime.
According to him, since assuming office, about five agencies have contacted wanting to contribute to the project to ensure its completion in order to serve the region and the entire country.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Adehye FM in Kumasi on Tuesday 21 March, Mr Osei-Mensah observed that at the moment, the situation at KATH was not the best because of lack of space to accommodate patients.
Patients and nursing mothers, he said, are left with the option of sleeping on the floors and on the corridors of the hospital, a situation unbefitting of Ghana.
He said: “I have resolved that by the time I leave office as the regional minister, that project would be completed. Since I assumed office, several agencies, about five of them, have knocked on my door wanting to assist in ensuring that the project is completed to serve and benefit the region and the entire country.
“I have visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and currently what is going on at the maternity ward is not the best due to inadequate space.”
